The story of "Hold On"
"Please Hold on"
Finally, our debut release is out today! We are so exited to finally be able to share some music.
The first step in reaching for the stars is to stop and look up. But not in the sense of reaching for the figurative stars of whatever our culture deems "success" or great heights in a material sense, but rather of reaching for something deeper. Anthemic and hopeful, "Please Hold On" was made to feel like a beam of light in the dark, hope when facing difficulties, whatever those might look like for you.
Here's what the band has to say about the song:
Teressa: "There have been songs throughout my life that made me feel seen, that touched me deeply, that let me know I wasn’t alone. Songs that helped me find the strength to find my way. When I think of those songs I picture bright jewels like lights along my path. “Please Hold On” feels like one of those songs. It's a message you can go back to when you need some firm ground to stand on. My hope is that this song will be a jewel for people. Because we all need that kind of encouragement sometimes.
Ryan: "The song reminds me that real joy and connection in life is found through faith and community. In moments of stress, I long for the grounding of scripture, prayer, shared meals, being in nature and engaging in meaningful conversation. Holding on to what matters requires letting go of what doesn’t...pride, self-reliance, old habits, even past joys or hurts. I can only grasp what’s ahead by releasing the need to cling to what’s behind. This song feels like an invitation to open my eyes, embrace new possibilities, and choose a deeper, freer way of living."
Vincent: "Pease Hold On" is one of those songs that was started many years ago, but never got finished. And it just always stuck with me and I would play the rough demo that was first create and it always had such a powerful emotion to me, even in the rawness of the first draft. I had tried to find an outlet to finish the song for some time, but it just never felt right. Then, once Ryan and I started working together on Destined For Mars, we dusted off the song and I feel like the magic of the muse visited a second time, something that can be rare, and he and I re-worked the whole thing with fresh, new inspiration. We continued to work on it, but never rushing it and really trying to sit with it until it really felt right. As the new production was really starting to take shape, and we were thinking about the vocals, I met Teressa and I am convinced it was divine intervention because after we met and we all got into the studio the first time, it really felt like magic when we finished the lyrics and she sang the song. Quick side note, for any music nerds out there, Ryan thought to transpose the song to the key of B, which can be very challenging to hit those higher notes in the melody. But Teressa truly nailed it from the very beginning. So that first day we all got tougher, "Please Hold On" truly found its place and really, it was the song that started what is now Destined For Mars. I have listed to it hundreds of times, and still, every time I listen to it, it still fills me with that powerful emotion that hits me deep inside."
Hopefully this song resonates with you and may it be a reminder that you are not alone and we can always find hope if we just have a little faith in the face of any adversity.
Sincerely,
Destined For mars
